Demanding
the best from ourselves
It occurred to me the
other day that if you look at the top academic achievers in any class, the same
students excel in their extracurricular activities too, whether they are
sports, the chess team, dance drill, or music. The common denominator is that
these are the students who aren’t afraid to put in some work hard, whether it is
in the weight room or doing their chemistry homework. These students aren’t
necessarily “gifted”, whether academically, in sports, musically, etc., they are just the ones who work the hardest. My question
for everyone is, how hard are we all willing to work?
How badly do we want good grades or to play on a winning team? How well we
perform is a decision we make. What’s your decision?

Walliker, Board President
Chess
Team:
The Chess
team has qualified for the state chess tournament to be held at the Peoria
Civic Center on February 8-9. On Jan.19, while competing in the Peoria Woodruff
Chess Tournament, Austin Dobbels received a trophy for his strong 3rd place
showing on Board #1. This Board is played by the best player on each team and
as such this award is particularly significant. The Chess team has also
competed in a tournament prep match at Princeville on Wednesday 1/30 at 3:30
PM.
